Biographical sketch:

After graduating in 1989, and after surgical rotation training, Dr Rajeentheran passed his FRCS Examinations from Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1997, gained experience at Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Hospital Kuala Terengganu while working as a General Surgeon, before taking up Urology as a subspecialty. He passed the Malaysian Board of Urology examinations in 2001.

He has had vast experience prior to becoming a urologist. He had undergone numerous postings during his training stints including training in General Medicine, Pediatric Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, ENT and Outpatient Clinics. He had undergone surgical rotations including the fields of Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery with rehabilitation and Spinal surgery, Vascular Surgery with General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart Institute (Institut Jantung Negara) prior to subspecializing in Urology.

After having completed the required form of training in Urology and passing the Board of Urology Examination, Malaysia, he underwent further training in the subspecialty of Urology at the Bristol Urological Institute, United Kingdom: training in the fields of Urodynamics, Incontinence Surgery and Female Urology, Andrology, Laparoscopic Urology and Uro-Oncology.

His special interest lies in the field of Uro-Oncology and Female Urology, Neuro-urology and Urodynamics.

Dr Rajeentheran has been the Consultant Urologist at KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital since 2006 and has been highly regarded as an outstanding Urologist among his peers in this country. He has been regularly requested to present on Urology topics in the National Urology Conferences and has been expert panels on Urology case discussions. He was the Organizing Chairman for the 1st Asian School of Urology Conference in 2005 which was deemed highly successful. He has presented numerous studies in the National Urology Conferences as well as in journals. He is still active with numerous presentations and expert panel discussions.

He was the Private Urologist representative and Council Member to the Board of Urology Malaysia, Examiner of the Malaysian Board of Urology examinations and Conjoint FRCS Glasgow (Urology) examinations, Council Member of the Urology Subspecialty Committee in the National Specialist Registry and Member of the Malaysian Urological Association’s Urology Fees Committee. He is a life member of the Malaysian Medical Association, Member of the Academy of Medicine and College of Surgeons Malaysia, Member of the Malaysian Mensa Society and Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh; and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and Member of Société Internationale d’Urologie (SIU) since 2015.

Endourology & Laparoscopy – PCNL (percutaneous nephrolithotripsy), Ureteroscopy, Flexible Ureterorenoscopy (RIRS), ESWL (extracorporeal lithotripsy) of stones, Nephrostomy insertion, Laparocopic varicocele ligation, Laparoscopic Marsupialisation of Renal Cysts, Laparoscopic Nephrectomy/ Nephroureterectomy;

Urooncology – TURBT (transurethral resection of bladder tumour), Radical Cystectomy, Radical Prostatectomy, Nephrectomy, Penectomy, Inguinal Lymph Node Dissection;

Reconstructive Urology – Augmentation Cystoplasty, Vesicovaginal fistula repair, Pyeloplasty, Ureteric reimplantation, penile prosthesis, artificial urinary sphincter;

His training in Bristol Urological Institute, United Kingdom, although involving all the Urological subspecialties, was concentrated on Female Urology, Incontinence Surgery and Urodynamics under Prof Paul Abrams (the past-President of the International Continence Society /ICS), the noted expert in the field of Urodynamics and Incontinence Surgery.

He was also responsible for starting the First Neuro-Urology multi-disciplinary clinic for paraplegics with Neurogenic Bladders and Urological Spinal Rehabilitation at the Institute of Urology, Hospital Kuala Lumpur in 2004. He has also conducted numerous Urodynamics courses at the Institute of Urology and Malaysian Urology workshops, Organized and Moderated numerous Urological Block Lectures for the Urology Clinical Training programs; was the Organizing Chairman, Course Convener & Workshop Coordinator for the 1st Asian School of Urology Conference held in 2005, Examiner for the Malaysian Urological Examinations since 2003; and have been involved as the Organizing Committee, Moderator, sessions Chairperson and Faculty Speaker for most of the Malaysian Urological Conferences for the past 17 years.
